Growing Ginger

ginger Ginger plants are not commonly sold in flower shops, but it is very easy to plant your own ginger. But a fresh ginger root with eyes on it. (Ginger reproduces vegetative, that is thanks to its roots that grow further and bigger.) Fill a flowerpot with soil and place on it a piece of ginger root with eyes facing up. Add a little bit more soil so that the root cannot be seen. Place the flowerpot on a warm and sunny place and keep the soil humid. The root starts to grow in two or three weeks and after that will grow pretty quickly. After few months, it will dry and die. That is normal. At this point of time, you can take the root out, eat part of it and plant another part of it again. Repeat the whole process for many years.
